KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Melaka, Pahang and Johor has not changed much overnight, with the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres increasing slightly to 292 on Tuesday (Dec 30) morning from 256 victims the night before.

In MELAKA, the state disaster management committee announced a slight increase in the number of evacuees to 36 people (eight families) from 34 the previous night, all housed at SK Parit Penghulu.

In JOHOR, the number of victims dropped by one to 172 (58 families) in seven relief centres in Segamat, from 173 the day before.

State disaster management committee chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said Sungai Muar had exceeded the danger level at two locations, Buloh Kasap with a reading of 8.89m and Jeti Sungai Tekam with 4.13m, both showing an upward trend.

Meanwhile, Jalan Felda Tenggaroh 3 in Mersing remains closed to all vehicles following a slope collapse. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 — The flood situation in Melaka, Pahang and Johor has not changed much with the number of victims still at the state’s temporary evacuation centres (PPS) increasing slightly to 292 victims this morning, compared to 256 victims last night.

In Melaka, the Melaka State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat (JPBN) in a statement announced that the number of victims had increased slightly to 36 people from eight families compared to 34 people last night, who were placed at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Parit Penghulu PPS.

According to InfoBencana from the Social Welfare Department (JKM), a similar situation was reported in Pahang, when the number of flood victims in Rompin increased slightly to 84 victims from 23 families, compared to 49 victims from 13 families last night with the victims placed at the Kampung Setajam PPS.

In Johor, a different situation was recorded with the number of victims evacuated slightly decreasing to 172 people from 58 families in seven PPS in Segamat, compared to 173 people recorded yesterday.

State JPBN chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman in a statement announced that two rivers in Segamat have also exceeded the danger level, namely Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap with a reading of 8.89 metres (m) and Jeti Sungai Tekam (4.13m), with an upward trend. 

Meanwhile, one road is still completely closed to all types of vehicles, namely Felda Tenggaroh 3, Mersing following a slope collapse. — Bernama

KUCHING, 30 DIS: Tempoh awal Januari dikenal pasti sebagai fasa kritikal cuaca di Sarawak susulan jangkaan luruan Monsun Timur Laut yang berpotensi membawa hujan lebat berterusan, angin kencang serta keadaan laut bergelora di beberapa kawasan negeri ini.

Pengarah Pejabat Meteorologi Sarawak, Khairul Najib berkata berdasarkan data dan ramalan cuaca terkini, luruan monsun dijangka memasuki rantau negara bermula 1 hingga 5 Januari 2026, sekali gus meningkatkan risiko kejadian cuaca buruk di Sarawak.

Menurut beliau, keadaan tersebut berpotensi menyebabkan hujan lebat yang signifikan, terutamanya di kawasan rendah, pedalaman serta pesisir pantai Sarawak, selain turut memberi kesan kepada aktiviti harian penduduk dan sektor maritim.

“Dalam tempoh ini, Sarawak berisiko mengalami hujan lebat berterusan yang disertai angin kencang dan laut bergelora. Oleh itu, pemantauan rapi sedang dilaksanakan bagi memastikan maklumat cuaca dapat disampaikan dengan cepat dan tepat kepada orang ramai,” katanya ketika dihubungi TVS, di sini, hari ini.

Sehubungan itu, Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia (MET Malaysia) akan terus meningkatkan tahap pemantauan cuaca di Sarawak dan akan mengeluarkan amaran hujan lebat berterusan sekiranya keadaan cuaca menunjukkan tanda-tanda berbahaya.

Khairul Najib turut menasihatkan penduduk Sarawak, khususnya mereka yang tinggal di kawasan berisiko banjir, pesisir pantai dan yang terlibat dalam aktiviti laut, supaya sentiasa berwaspada serta mengambil langkah kesiapsiagaan sepanjang tempoh berkenaan.

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 30 — The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) released the Compendium of Environment Statistics, Malaysia 2025, today.

The average maximum temperatures recorded at 42 meteorological stations showed a decline at 33 stations, ranging from 0.1 to 1.3 degrees Celsius, while two stations registered a slight increase throughout 2024. 

The report said 22 stations recorded an increase in annual rainfall, with rises ranging from 51.0 mm to 2,230.9 mm. Kapit Station recorded the highest total rainfall of 5,624.0 mm, while the lowest was recorded at Kuala Pilah Station with 1,704.3 mm.

“In general, the diverse impacts of global climate change in 2024 included a sharp rise in flood incidents across Malaysia, totalling 1,345 cases compared to 809 the previous year.

“Sarawak recorded the highest incidence with 459 cases, followed by Terengganu (199) and Kedah (101),” he said. 

The report also highlighted an increase in clinical waste, which rose by 11.8 percent in 2024 following two consecutive years of decline.

He said the total volume increased to 46,700 metric tonnes, compared to 41,800 metric tonnes in 2023.

“The largest volume of clinical waste was generated in Selangor (11,800 metric tonnes), followed by Kuala Lumpur (5,100 metric tonnes) and Sarawak (5,000 metric tonnes),” he said.

The Compendium of Environment Statistics, Malaysia 2025 provides environmental statistics across six components: Environmental Conditions and Quality; Natural Resources and their Use; Waste; Extreme Events and Disasters; Human Settlements and Environmental Health; and Environmental Engagement, Management and Protection.

This statistical compilation is based on the United Nations’ Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics, 2013. — Bernama
