KAJANG – Operasi di Menara Majlis Perbandaran Kajang (MPKj) kembali berjalan seperti biasa selepas pemeriksaan Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM) mengesahkan tiada sebarang kerosakan kritikal pada bangunan susulan kejadian gegaran yang berlaku tengah hari tadi.
MPKj dalam satu kenyataan memaklumkan, kejadian itu berlaku pada pukul 12.21 tengah hari sebelum tindakan pengosongan bangunan dilaksanakan oleh Pasukan Respons Kecemasan (Emergency Response Team, ERT) sebagai langkah keselamatan.
Menurutnya, pemeriksaan secara visual kemudian dijalankan oleh JBPM bersama Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) bagi memastikan keadaan bangunan berada dalam keadaan selamat.
“Hasil pemeriksaan mendapati tiada sebarang kerosakan kritikal yang dikenal pasti.
“Selain itu, tiada kemalangan jiwa atau kecederaan dilaporkan dan keadaan di Menara MPKj adalah terkawal serta selamat,” katanya hari ini.
Sehubungan itu, warga kerja serta pelanggan dibenarkan memasuki semula bangunan Menara MPKj bermula pukul 2 petang tadi selepas mendapat pengesahan daripada pihak bomba.
Kosmo! sebelum ini melaporkan beberapa bangunan di sekitar Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor dilaporkan mengalami gegaran susulan gempa bumi yang berlaku di Utara Sumatera, Indonesia, hari ini.
Antara lokasi yang terkesan ialah bangunan MPKj, INTI College Subang Jaya dan sebuah bangunan di Bandar Tasik Selatan, Kuala Lumpur.
Terdahulu, Jabatan Meteorologi melaporkan kejadian gempa bumi sederhana bermagnitud 5.7 berlaku di Utara Sumatera, Indonesia pada pukul 12.18 tengah hari.
Gempa itu berpusat kira-kira 55 kilometer barat daya Langsa pada kedalaman 10 kilometer dan gegarannya turut dirasai di beberapa kawasan di Pantai Barat Semenanjung Malaysia. – KOSMO! ONLINE
SEREMBAN: Langkah proaktif Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan melaksanakan projek penyelenggaraan jajaran sungai sejak 2022 terbukti memberi impak positif, apabila masalah banjir yang sekian lama membelenggu penduduk khususnya di Ampangan semakin terkawal.
Calon Pakatan Harapan (PH) kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Ampangan, Datuk Muhammad Nazri Kassim berkata, inisiatif yang dilaksanakan menerusi kerjasama Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran (JPS) itu memberi tumpuan kepada kerja-kerja membersih, mendalamkan dan menyelenggara aliran sungai.
Beliau berkata, penyelenggaraan Sungai Batang Penar yang merentasi kawasan Ampangan sebelum bercantum dengan Sungai Linggi merupakan antara langkah paling penting kerana kebanyakan kejadian banjir sebelum ini berpunca daripada sungai yang cetek serta tidak diselenggara secara berkala.
“Masalah utama di Ampangan adalah banjir. Kawasan ini dilalui Sungai Batang Penar dan apabila aliran sungai tidak diselenggara dengan baik, ia menjadi antara punca berlakunya limpahan air ketika hujan lebat.
“Sebab itu, kerajaan negeri mengambil inisiatif melaksanakan program penyelenggaraan jajaran sungai secara berterusan,” katanya kepada Utusan Malaysia.
Muhammad Nazri berkata, pelaksanaan kerja penyelenggaraan itu dipertanggungjawabkan kepada YNS Management Sdn. Bhd. sebagai kontraktor utama yang dilantik kerajaan negeri.
Katanya, pendekatan yang digunakan turut memberi nilai tambah apabila kontraktor dibenarkan mengeluarkan pasir dari sungai sebagai sumber hasil, sekali gus mengurangkan beban kewangan kerajaan negeri dalam melaksanakan kerja-kerja penyelenggaraan.
“Konsep ini memberi manfaat kepada semua pihak. Sungai dapat diselenggara dengan baik tanpa membebankan kerajaan negeri manakala hasil jualan pasir membantu menampung kos operasi,” katanya.
Beliau berkata, hasil pelaksanaan program tersebut, kejadian banjir yang dahulunya kerap berlaku terutama sekitar 2019 dan 2020 kini semakin berkurangan.
Katanya, kejayaan itu turut diperkukuh menerusi Projek Rancangan Tebatan Banjir (RTB) yang dilaksanakan Kerajaan Persekutuan melibatkan kerja-kerja mendalam dan memperbesarkan sungai untuk mengelakkan banjir kilat di kawasan berisiko tinggi di Ampangan.
Jelasnya, RTB merupakan sebahagian daripada Projek Pembangunan Lembangan Sungai Bersepadu (PLSB) Sungai Linggi (Fasa 5) di bawah JPS dengan peruntukan lebih RM101 juta.
Katanya, Pejabat DUN Ampangan terus bekerjasama dengan ketua kampung, JPS dan Majlis Bandaraya Seremban bagi mengenal pasti lokasi yang masih memerlukan penambahbaikan,” katanya. – UTUSAN
MELAKA, July 21 — The state government, through Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB), has proposed building a temporary water tank at Kem Terendak in Sungai Udang as a short-term measure to address recurring water supply issues at the camp.
Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management senior exco Datuk Rais Yasin said the move is necessary while awaiting the completion of the Development and Upgrade of the Water Reticulation System project at the camp, which is expected to be ready by April 2028
However, Rais, who is also the Sungai Udang assemblyman, said the construction of the temporary tank depends on approval from the Ministry of Defence (Mindef).
“The water issue at Kem Terendak falls under the purview of the Public Works Department and Mindef, but the state government, through SAMB, is committed to helping affected residents, military personnel and their families.
“Therefore, the state government, through SAMB, will submit a proposal to Mindef. We will identify a suitable location for the temporary tank, in addition to deploying mobile water tankers,” he told reporters at Kem Terendak yesterday.
He was speaking after the handover ceremony of two 5,000-litre water tanks from SAMB to Kem Terendak. Also present were Terendak Garrison Headquarters commanding officer Lt Col Annuar Kaliman and SAMB chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Saleh Jusman.
Earlier, Rais revealed that some 2,000 military personnel and households, along with five schools, including a MARA Junior Science College, within the camp have been hit by water supply disruptions over the past five days.
He attributed the disruption to a major pipe burst along Jalan Kampung Payasum in Sungai Udang, with repairs expected to be completed by tonight. But full restoration is expected to take another one to two days.
“To ease the burden, SAMB has been delivering 25,000 gallons of water daily using 25 tanker lorries since yesterday. But this is insufficient, given that an estimated 2,000 military personnel and households are affected.
“We have also supplied water containers for school use to ensure daily activities run smoothly. I apologise to all Kem Terendak residents and affected families. The state government will continue to stand by them,” he said. — Bernama
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — A total of 101 male students escaped unharmed after a fire broke out at the upper floor of a boys’ hostel building at Sekolah Menengah Agama Tarbiah Diniah, Jalan Pegawai, here early this morning.
Kulim Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander Assistant Fire Superintendent Abdul Mois Ahmad Mansur said the department received an emergency call about the fire at 2.47am, Harian Metro reported.
He said firefighters from the Kulim Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by personnel from the Kulim Hi-Tech Fire and Rescue Station, were dispatched to the scene.
“The operation was also assisted by the Lunas and Kulim Volunteer Fire Brigades.
“The Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre received an emergency call directly to the station, informing that a school fire had occurred,” he said in a statement today.
Abdul Mois said firefighters found the blaze involved a two-storey boys’ hostel building, with about 65 per cent of the upper floor structure destroyed.
He said there were no casualties as all students staying at the hostel managed to evacuate themselves and gather at a safe location.
“Firefighting operations were carried out using water from the Volunteer Fire Brigade’s water tank.
“The fire was brought under control at 3.09am, followed by overhaul works to ensure there were no remaining sources of fire that could cause a recurrence,” he said.
Abdul Mois said the cause of the fire and estimated losses were still under investigation.
The affected students were understood to be from Forms Two, Three, Four and Six.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — The flash floods that hit several areas in Petaling Jaya on Saturday were likely caused by exceptionally heavy rainfall over a short period, which exceeded the capacity of existing drainage systems, according to Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim.
Izham said preliminary assessments also pointed to localised factors as contributing to the flooding despite various flood mitigation measures, including the construction of the FAS Tunnel.
“Besides unusually heavy rainfall over a short period, local factors such as narrowed drainage channels, obstructions to water flow and the increase in paved surfaces have resulted in higher surface water runoff,” he told Astro Awani yesterday.
He said the Selangor government, through the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and relevant technical agencies, is carrying out a detailed investigation to determine the specific causes of flooding at each affected location.
“The findings will enable both short-term and long-term solutions to be implemented to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future,” he said.
Izham said the state government would continue strengthening its flood early warning system to ensure residents receive timely information and have adequate time to prepare.
He added that the state was committed to improving monitoring mechanisms and the dissemination of information to the public, while working with MBPJ, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), and developers in the affected areas on long-term solutions.
“Following the recent flash floods, the state government has directed immediate coordinated action involving MBPJ and all relevant agencies and departments to identify the causes, implement urgent mitigation measures, and improve monitoring and warning systems for residents,” he said.
Izham said the state government viewed the incident seriously and would continue working with all stakeholders to ensure effective mitigation measures are implemented to safeguard residents' safety and well-being.
He added that he had visited the affected areas on May 11 following complaints from residents and traders over recurring flash floods to inspect the condition of drainage and irrigation systems.
According to Izham, the visit enabled the state government and relevant agencies to assess the effectiveness of existing infrastructure and identify areas requiring improvements to reduce the risk of future flooding.
