Pahang floods: Hundreds of students evacuated as two Pahang educational institutions affected

KUANTAN: Hundreds of students at two educational institutions here were evacuated due to floods following days of continuous heavy rain.
The Registrar of Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UnIPSAS), Mohd Faizul Abdul Hadi Nor, said 135 hostel students were moved to the university mosque.
"All those affected were cared for according to the UnIPSAS disaster management plan, and we are making sure all their needs are met," he said Wednesday (Dec 17).
Kuantan Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Major (PA) Zahidi Zainudin, when contacted by Bernama, said the rescue operation began around 1pm and continued until 5pm.
He said the students were evacuated with a Sealegs amphibious boat, with help from four rescuers led by Sergeant (PA) Amrad Isnin.
Media reports also said that over 100 students from Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM) were evacuated after the college area was inundated.
The evacuation was carried out in stages, with students being moved to Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA (KKTM) Kuantan under close supervision, starting at 8.30am Wednesday. - Bernama
