JOHOR BARU: Johor government has channelled RM3.27 million in financial aid to 1,089 flood-affected households who did not register at temporary relief centres during the fifth wave of the northeast monsoon (MTL) disaster.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said payments of RM3,000 each would be disbursed in the second phase of the state's relief initiative today and tomorrow, involving six district offices across Johor.
"The aid is part of a proactive move by the state to ensure assistance reaches victims, even as the appeal period remains open until the end of April," Onn Hafiz said in a statement today.
The first round of payments was made on March 27, shortly after the state began receiving appeals from victims who had missed registration at relief centres during the floods.
The 1,089 appeals were submitted to district offices in Johor Baru, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, Pontian, Kluang, and Batu Pahat as of April 11.
The special financial aid is jointly managed by the state government in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), the Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAIJ), local authorities, and the Johor Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ).
Eligible flood victims who have yet to submit appeals still have time to do so at their respective district offices by April 30, with a third phase of disbursement planned for May.
"The Johor government remains fully committed to supporting those affected by the floods and easing their burden," Onn Hafiz added.
