MIRI (March 9): The rising water levels following torrential rain in Lawas resulted in a call for evacuation assistance from Kampung Bangkiai and Kampung Serampang, Sundar in Lawas.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the call was received at 9.18pm last night and a team of the Lawas fire station was dispatched to the location, which was 20 kilometres away, using a lorry and a boat.
“Upon arrival, the complainant appealed for help to evacuate three family members to a nearby relative’s home.
“However, the complainant refused to evacuate, citing that the water level had begun receding and was under control,” it said.
Bomba added that other assistance included transporting 13 residents, consisting 12 adults and a child, using a lorry due to the road being flooded and impassable for smaller vehicles.
