Police: No bodies found at Putra Heights gas explosion site so far

SUBANG JAYA: Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan has confirmed that no bodies were found so far in relations to the Putra Heights pipeline gas fire.

He said authorities will still need some time to stabilise the explosion site before they will be able to conduct further investigations there.

Hussein the police had received information about a victim believed to have jumped into the Klang River, approximately 50 metres from the village.

"Today, the marine police searched the Klang River up to this location, but no bodies have been found. An initial surface inspection of the crater also did not find any body parts.

"We have deployed K9 units and forensic teams to inspect abandoned houses in the area as well. However, we have not found any bodies or injured individuals," he said at a press conference here today.

However, Hussein said further investigations were needed to determine whether anyone was inside the excavator at the time of the explosion.
 

He also confirmed that, as of now, no missing person reports had been filed in relation to the incident.

"We still need more time to excavate the site. From what we currently know, one excavator is buried inside. Was there anyone inside at the time of the fire? Further investigation is needed.

"For the next two weeks, until April 15, we need to stabilise the area first. Excavation of the crater will only begin after April 15," he said.

On April 1, a massive fire broke out at a Petronas gas pipeline in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, causing widespread panic as flames shot into the air.

The intense heat from the flames - visible from kilometres away - melted plastic and metal within a wide radius of the pipeline.

A total of 227 houses and 365 vehicles in residential areas near the pipeline were damaged.
