Mild earthquake hits Ranau, no tsunami threat

PETALING JAYA: A mild earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale struck Ranau at 2.56pm on Monday (Dec 16), with tremors felt in several areas.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said in a statement the quake epicentre was located at coordinates 5.97° North and 116.57° East, approximately 15km west of Ranau, Sabah
"The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres. Tremors were felt around Ranau," it said.
The Department added that it will continue to monitor the situation and said that those who felt the tremors from this earthquake to fill out the survey form at https://forms.gle/
“There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia,” it added. This comes after a mild earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale struck Tawau at 4.54am on Thursday (Dec 5), with tremors felt in several areas.
