KUALA LUMPUR: The Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team's MAS01 contingent has landed safely in Kathmandu, Nepal, to begin its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mission.
"The SMART MAS01 team landed safely at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, about noon local time on Sept 5.
"By 4.30pm local time, the team had completed arrival procedures and mission protocols, including logistics clearance and verification of the personnel manifest," the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said in a statement.
Malaysia had earlier sought Nepal's permission toΒ deploy the teamΒ following flash floods and landslides along the Nepal-China border that left dozens of Malaysians unreachable.
The agency said the team was headed to the Malaysian embassy in Nepal for a briefing on the situation, with further coordination with the embassy and local emergency management agencies to determine deployment arrangements.
"Daily reporting will be coordinated between Nadma and the Malaysian embassy in Nepal," it said.Β It added that the team was in good condition, with no issues reported so far.
