KUALA LUMPUR: More than 6,000 Malaysians stranded by the floods in Thailand have safely returned home since the rescue mission began last Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
He said the government, through the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra), continues to closely monitor the situation and will expedite assistance wherever necessary.
"I am deeply moved by the courage and perseverance of our volunteer team who were willing to wade through the flood and face risks to save Malaysians.
"My deepest appreciation and salute to our heroes," he said in a Facebook post today.
He said the hard work and commitment of all parties in ensuring their safety reflects a high level of concern and a strong spirit of togetherness, regardless of religion, race or background.
"I urge that we continue to pray that every step of the volunteers and our entire team will be facilitated in continuing the mission of bringing back Malaysians who are still trapped in Thailand.
