KOTA KINABALU: All 310 remaining flood evacuees in Sabah's interior Tenom district have been allowed to go home as the flood situation improves in their villages.

District officer Mas Syazwan Masood, who heads the district disaster management committee, said they closed all six temporary relief centres in the district on Tuesday (March 11).

Tenom and Keningau were four among four Sabah districts hit by severe flooding recently, with south-western and flood-prone Beaufort and Membakut affected the most.

Tenom saw a total of 1,119 people from 420 families evacuated to 14 relief centres as floods surged during the weekend.

In a statement issued at 9am, the state disaster management committee secretariat said the number of overnight victims in 29 relief centres was 4,530 people from 1,488 families.

The highest number was in Beaufort, where seven relief centres housed 1,719 victims from 556 families.

Membakut had 914 people (312 families) in five centres and Sook, 778 people (200 families) in three centres.
