BINTULU (March 4): Steven Kong Kai Seng, who is special officer to Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King, today conducted an on-site visit to the landslide-struck area in Taman Belle Hill, Jalan Tun Hussein Onn.
Accompanying him during the visit were representatives from the Bintulu District Office, Bintulu Public Works Department (JKR), and Bintulu Development Authority (BDA).
According to Kong, the incident involved the hillside behind a row of houses near a new housing project construction site.
He said the landslide which occurred in December last year raised concerns among residents, prompting authorities to take swift action to find a solution.
“Following discussions, the consulting firm will proceed with the construction of a retaining wall as the primary mitigation measure.
“Additionally, the housing developer’s consultant is required to submit safety drawings to the BDA for evaluation and approval before any further work could proceed,” he said, adding that the developer has promised to bear the costs of damage incurred by the affected residents.
Meanwhile, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang—who had also visited the site—pointed out that the situation is increasingly concerning as cracks on the house walls are worsening, affecting the safety of residents.
“I have urged the relevant parties to conduct comprehensive drastic measures to prevent greater risks,” he added.
