RM2.5mil to raise Sibu road, mitigate flood risk

SOME 7,000-odd households at Jalan Ling Kai Cheng in Sibu, Sarawak and its surrounding areas will soon be safe from flooding.
Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang said his request for a RM2.5mil allocation to raise a road section measuring 780m was approved by the Sarawak government.
“It is one of the main roads connecting to the town centre. “It also affected three constituencies – Bawang Assan, Nangka and Palawan.
Tiang said Sarawak had set aside RM22mil for natural disasters.
Of the amount, RM10mil was from the state government and RM12mil was from the Federal Government.
Separately, Tiang who is also Sarawak Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister said a request has been put forward by the state Health Department and Sibu Hospital to the Health Ministry to build a new block, staff quarters, oncology and cardiology wards. — By ANDY CHUA
