Tremors felt in Klang Valley after North Sumatra earthquake

PETALING JAYA:Β Residents of Klang Valley reported feeling tremors after an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale occurred in North Sumatra, Indonesia.
The meteorological department said the quake occurred at 12.18pm with an epicentre 55km southwest of Langsa, Indonesia, at a depth of 10km.
βTremors were felt on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia,β it said in a Facebook post.
Some netizens reported feeling the tremors in Petaling Jaya, Kajang, Puchong, Klang and Selayang.

In several statements, the fire and rescue department said firefighters were deployed to inspect a building in Bandar Tasik Selatan, the Kajang municipal council building and the Inti College building in Subang Jaya after receiving reports of tremors.
This is not the first time that earthquakes in North Sumatra have caused tremors in Malaysia.
In March, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake off the west coast of North Sumatra led to tremors across northern states of Peninsular Malaysia and the surrounding areas. There was no tsunami threat.
In February 2022, occupants of multiple high-rise buildings in the Klang Valley and Melaka were evacuated after feeling tremors caused by a 6.1-magnitude earthquake, again in North Sumatra.
