ALOR STAR: Ten districts across Kedah were affected by strong winds that battered the state yesterday, toppling trees that blocked roads and damaging scores of homes.

Kedah Civil Defence Force deputy director Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said the full extent of the damage was still being assessed.

He said the affected districts were Sik, Padang Terap, Pendang, Kota Setar, Yan, Kubang Pasu, Langkawi, Baling, Kuala Muda and Pokok Sena.

"Our personnel have been monitoring the affected areas, clearing fallen trees from roads and homes, and conducting initial damage assessments in collaboration with other agencies.

"The total number of houses affected, along with detailed losses and damage estimates, are still being ascertained," he said in a statement.

Suhaimi urged the public to exercise caution during unpredictable weather and to stay alert by following official warnings and updates on strong winds and severe weather through authorised portals.

Yesterday's storm wreaked havoc across several parts of the state. In Alor Star, strong winds and heavy rain swept through the state capital about 8.45pm, causing damage within minutes.
