Strong winds damage 125 homes in Kedah

ALOR STAR: A total of 125 houses in 64 villages across four districts in Kedah suffered damage when strong winds ripped through parts of the state late last night.
As of 12.30pm today, 76 houses in 31 villages in Yan district were reported damaged, followed by 27 houses in 14 villages in Sik, 21 houses in 18 villages in Kota Setar, and one house in Pendang.
Kedah Civil Defence Force (CDF) personnel in the affected districts are still monitoring the situation and verifying the extent of the damage.
Yan CDF deputy officer Lieutenant (PA) Muhammad Shahrul Nizam Shahrul said the fierce winds and heavy rain affected five sub-districts in Yan, with five cases of fallen trees also reported.
Kota Setar CDF officer Captain (PA) Abdul Haliq Rafiq Mokhtar said 21 houses in 18 villages across 11 sub-districts, including Titi Gajah, Kuala Kedah, Tajar, Langgar, Derga, Kubang Rotan, Anak Bukit, Alor Malai, Pengkalan Kundor, Padang Lalang and Telok Kechai were affected.
Sik CDF officer Lieutenant (PA) Haisul Aishah Mat Napiah said 27 houses in 14 villages spanning Sik, Teloi and Jeneri sub-districts sustained damage.
In Pendang, CDF officer Lieutenant (PA) Yuslina Yusoff confirmed one house was damaged while monitoring continues.
"Our teams have also cleared fallen trees blocking traffic along Jalan Lubuk Getah, which had disrupted access for villagers due to the storm," she told Harian Metro.
