SELANGOR is prepared to provide post-flood support to Sabah and Sarawak, but is currently monitoring the situation before deploying volunteers.

State youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said with floods still at their peak in both states, immediate deployment would be ineffective.

Instead, Mohd Najwan said the state would assess the needs after floodwaters recede.

He said Selangor had sent volunteers for post-flood cleanup efforts before, including deployments to Kelantan and Kedah.

The health carnival saw 45 children registering for a subsidised circumcision programme, which cost only RM30.

“With a price reduction of up to 85%, we hope this programme can ease the burden on families.”

He added that the programme, with all costs covered by his office and the state government, would be rolled out in other areas under the Kota Anggerik constituency after the school holidays.

Mohd Najwan also emphasised the importance of basic health screenings, especially for senior citizens.

Free cervical cancer screenings were available too, and he encouraged women to take advantage of the opportunity.

He said the state government had allocated between RM40,000 and RM50,000 for these health carnivals throughout Kota Anggerik.

“Previously, we held carnivals in Bukit Subang and Section 11,” Mohd Najwan said, adding that future carnivals are planned for either Section 16 or Section U9 in Shah Alam.

On another matter, Mohd Najwan said Selangor was investing further in e-sports with the launch of Selangor Future Cup – a Mobile Legends Bang-Bang (MLBB) tournament for secondary school students.

He said the programme aimed to scout new talent and expand the state’s e-sports pool. While acknowledging the established Selangor Red Giants (SRG), he stressed the need to broaden the talent pool.

Mohd Najwan said Selangor Future Cup, a collaboration with Selangor Education Department, was open to secondary school students across the state. So far, 84 secondary schools had confirmed their participation.

The Selangor Future Cup will culminate in a grand final on Feb 22 and 23, with a total prize pool of RM200,000, at Aeon Mall Shah Alam in Section 13.

In other sporting news, Mohd Najwan said Selangor was exploring the possibility of hosting the Malaysia Games (Sukma) at Sepang International Circuit (SIC), while the Para-Sukma opening ceremony may be held at the MBPJ Stadium in Petaling Jaya.

He said the State Secretariat met with SIC management last week to discuss the venue’s feasibility and readiness.
