SIBU (Jan 23): A landslide struck near Rumah Sekapan Piit in Belaga near here today. Fortunately, no victims were involved in the incident.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said Belaga was alerted to the incident around 7am, and firefighters were despatched to the location, about six kilometres away.

“Upon arrival, the operation commander reported that the landslide occurred on a riverbank near the longhouse access road due to continuous overnight rain,” it added.

Bomba said despite the landslide, the road remains passable for vehicles.

“The firefighters installed caution tape and advised the longhouse residents to exercise caution when passing through the affected area.”
