Seven Kuching evac centres close as flood situation improves, one opens in Subis

KUCHING (Jan 4): All seven temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in Kuching were officially closed at 6pm on Sunday afternoon following an improvement in flood conditions.

In an update, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the PPS that have been closed were located at Dewan Masyarakat Stapok, Dewan R Piang Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Dewan Surau Nurul Najhin Stapok, Taman Malihah multipurpose hall, SJK Chung Hua Sungai Tengah, SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa, and Masjid Darul Istiqlaal.

However, due to flooding in Subis, a new PPS has been opened at Dewan Serbaguna SMK Bekenu.

The centre is currently sheltering evacuees from Kampung Kawang Bekenu and Kampung Jenggalas Bekenu.

As of 4.15pm on Sunday, the number of evacuees in Subis stood at 47 individuals from 18 households.
