Clear skies in Sarawak, 41 areas in peninsula with unhealthy air quality

PETALING JAYA:
Sarawak is enjoying improved air quality with none of its stations recording unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings this morning.

All the 41 locations recording “unhealthy” API areas were in the peninsula, with Johan Setia, Selangor (187), topping the list as of 9am.

The other areas with unhealthy air quality included Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (179), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (177), Putrajaya (176), Shah Alam, Selangor (175), Seremban, Negeri Sembilan (175), Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur (172), and Petaling Jaya and Klang, Selangor (169 and 167, respectively).

Ten locations in Sarawak, which had been the worst affected by the haze, were in the “moderate” category this morning, with API readings ranging from 51 to 73.

Kuching recorded an API reading of 73, Sibu (66), IPD Serian (66), Samarahan (65), Bintulu (59), Kapit (56), Sri Aman (55), Miri (54) Mukah (52) and Samalaju (51).

Four locations, including Limbang and Sarikei (46) and ILP Miri (43) in Sarawak, had “good” air quality. The other area was Kota Kinabalu (43).

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
