Northeast Monsoon: Sarawak intensifies welfare support, emergency readiness

THE Social Welfare Department has identified 658 temporary relief centres (PPS) statewide in preparation for the 2025/2026 Northeast Monsoon (MTL), said Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

The Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development said essential relief supplies are stored at the Samarahan Central Storage Depot, as well as at mini depots in Mukah, Kapit and Miri divisions, and in Lawas District.

“In addition, essential relief supplies are also available at 12 divisional and district welfare offices, as well as 24 disaster forward bases statewide,” she said during her ministerial winding-up speech.

Fatimah said these measures form part of the state’s initiative to empower the community through an inclusive social support system.

She also said the government has allocated RM295.5 million for the monthly welfare financial assistance scheme. “As of October 2025, RM249.2 million has been disbursed to 56,660 recipients,” she said.

On targeted health assistance, Fatimah said RM6.5 million has been utilised as of October this year, benefitting 312 patients under the Kidney Patient Assistance Scheme, 81 patients under the Medical Assistance Scheme, and 75 patients under the Prosthetic/Support Equipment Assistance Scheme.
