CAPE TOWN, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in the recent floods in South Africa's Eastern Cape Province has risen to 95, as search and recovery efforts continue, local authorities reported on Monday.
"A total of 95 bodies have been recovered across various districts. This includes two bodies of teenage males discovered yesterday afternoon," the Eastern Cape Provincial Government confirmed in a statement.
Meanwhile, the integrated search and recovery teams have been assisted by the South African National Defense Force members who continue to work tirelessly to locate and recover any remaining bodies.
"From today, the search and recovery teams will be joined by a team deployed from the North West Provincial Government, increasing the number of teams to four," the statement said.
The provincial government welcomed the support of government institutions and nongovernmental organizations, which have been part of rescue and recovery efforts, including the provision of humanitarian support.
According to the statement, local authorities have also provided burial support, financial assistance, and other forms of aid to the bereaved families.
