Anwar, Prabowo discuss forest fires, West Asia conflict during Brics summit

NEW DELHI, Sept 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto discussed the issue of forest fires and developments in the West Asia conflict during their meeting on the sidelines of the 18th Brics Leaders’ Summit here.

“With President Prabowo, we also had the opportunity to touch on the issue of forest fires, as well as developments in the conflict in West Asia, which require consensus and joint action,” he said in a post on his social media today.

The discussion comes amid a severe forest and land fire season in Indonesia, with smoke from fires in parts of Kalimantan and Sumatra affecting neighbouring countries, including Malaysia.

Anwar, who took the opportunity to speak to Prabowo during the Summit’s Gala Dinner yesterday, also said he had renewed his invitation to Prabowo to visit Malaysia at the earliest opportunity to discuss and resolve several outstanding bilateral matters.

Anwar arrived here on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, which concludes today.

Anwar will continue his working visit to Keralam (the new official name for Kerala), a state located on Malabar Coast in southern India.

The Prime Minister will depart for the Maldives tomorrow (Sept 14). — Bernama
