Penang flash floods displace 42 people on April 21

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A temporary relief centre has been opened at Dewan Permatang Pasir to shelter 42 victims following flash floods due to heavy rain on Penang’s mainland.

A Civil Defence spokesman said the victims from 13 families moved to the centre at 7am on Monday (April 21) after their houses were inundated by flood waters.

"The evacuees were from Penanti, Kampung Pelet, Taman Guar Perahu, Tanah Liat and the surrounding areas," said the spokesman.

Earlier, the victims were evacuated to the Kubang Semang mosque before they were transferred to the centre once it was opened at 7am.

The flood subsided after the rain stopped at about 5am. No casualties have been reported so far.
