FIVE districts in Selangor were hit by floods yesterday morning due to continuous rain that began around 1am. Selangor Civil Defence Force director Ghazali Abd Rahman said the affected districts were Petaling, Klang, Sepang, Hulu Langat and Gombak.
“In Petaling, the areas flooded included Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, Kampung Tengah, Kampung Baru Hicom, Kampung Seri Aman, Kampung Padang Jawa, and the motorcycle lane along the Federal Highway (Shah Alam).
“In Klang, flash floods were reported in Bukit Payung; Taman Daya, Meru; Pekan Meru, Taman Mutiara, and Taman Sri Muda.
“In Sepang, the affected areas included Kampung Abu Bakar Baginda, Sungai Merab and Desa Vila Merab,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Ghazali said areas hit in Hulu Langat included Laman Gahal and Batu 14, while in Gombak it was along Jalan Ayer Panas.
While the total number of flood victims in the state has yet to be determined, hundreds have been affected, including 137 people in Meru, Klang alone.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari confirmed one fatality due to electrocution — a foreign national in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam.
He said Tenaga Nasional Bhd had been notified to cut off electricity supply in the affected areas to prevent further incidents. “We also urge victims to switch off their power supply.
“Although the flood situation has improved slightly, especially after the rain, which fell continuously from midnight until this (yesterday) morning, we still advise caution,” he said during a press conference yesterday.
According to the “Public Info Banjir” website, as of 10am, the water level in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, had exceeded the danger level of five metres by 0.09 metres, before gradually receding. Traffic also began improving as the rain eased, police said.
Affected areas in Taman Sri Muda included Persiaran Budiman, Persiaran Jubli Perak, Persiaran Perusahaan Seksyen 23, Aeon Big Seksyen 23, Jalan Mantap Seksyen 25/129, and the Shell petrol station in Seksyen 19.
In Gombak, a minor landslide damaged a house at an Orang Asli village in Batu 12, Gombak, around 5am yesterday.
“We deployed a fire engine and six personnel to the area,” Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said. No casualties were reported.
