Landslide near SK Balong, Sarikei prompts emergency response

SARIKEI (March 13): A landslide occurred along Jalan Ulu Sarikei near Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Balong yesterday (March 12), prompting swift action from emergency responders.

Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Arrahman Chik said they received a distress call about the incident at 7.35am. Two firefighters were immediately deployed to the site, located 15km away, he said.

“Upon arrival, our personnel found that a slope failure had occurred on the roadside,” he told reporters today. Arrahman noted that the soil in the area remains unstable, posing a risk of further landslides.

As a precaution, firefighters have cordoned off the site to prevent untoward incidents.

He also urged residents to exercise caution when passing through the area and to report any signs of worsening conditions.

“We have advised the local community to monitor the landslide site closely and report any worsening conditions that may pose further danger,” he added.
