Kinabatangan remains last flood-affected district in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Kinabatangan remains the only district still sheltering displaced flood victims following last week’s heavy downpour, with 169 people from 43 families still housed at relief centres.
Of the victims, 91 were children.
As of 4pm on Thursday (Feb 13), Sekolah Kebangsaan Sukau was accommodating 107 evacuees from 29 families, while Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Garam sheltered 62 people from 14 families.
With improving weather conditions, those affected are expected to return home soon.
Meanwhile, in Beaufort, the Dewan Bisaya and Dewan DSP Dun Banir relief centres were officially closed at 3pm on Thursday, with all evacuees allowed to return home after flood waters receded and the area was declared safe.
Beaufort district officer Mohd Nazri Ajun confirmed that conditions had stabilised, allowing residents to safely return.
