Wisma Putra official channel for Malaysia's efforts in Nepal, says Nadma

PUTRAJAYA: All official statements on the devastating floods in Nepal, including updates on Malaysia’s assistance and rescue efforts, will be issued by the Foreign Ministry, says the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

The agency said the move was aimed at ensuring information on the disaster was coordinated and disseminated through a single official channel.

“Nadma will continue to work closely with the Foreign Ministry by providing verified operational information from time to time for dissemination through a single official channel.

“This includes information regarding Malaysia’s Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team,” it said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 9).

Nadma also urged all parties to cooperate in ensuring that information was conveyed consistently, systematically and responsibly.

The disaster was triggered by a glacial collapse that sent ice, mud, rocks and water surging through a valley in Nepal, wiping out entire settlements.

More than 590 foreigners from 39 countries remain missing, according to figures from Nepal’s foreign ministry.

The death toll has risen to at least 1,114, while nearly 4,000 people remain unaccounted for as rescue operations continue.
