Third sedimentation pond planned after TTDI project site flooding

PETALING JAYA: A third sedimentation pond or erosion and sediment control plan (ESCP) pond will be built following flooding at a construction site in Taman Tun Dr Ismail yesterday, federal territories minister Hannah Yeoh said.
Yeoh said an urgent meeting was held this morning to address the flooding, attended by all relevant agencies and chaired by Kuala Lumpur mayor Fadlun Mak Ujud.
She said several mitigation and rectification measures are under way, including increasing the capacity of the second ESCP pond and carrying out desilting and maintenance on the first ESCP pond.
Other measures being carried out include maintaining all unlined drains on site, removing collapsed structures, installing new Jersey barriers, and flushing drainage systems.
“The Selangor public works department (JKR) has also stepped in this morning with additional machinery to expedite repair works,” she said in a Facebook post.
Yeoh said the control centre set up by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will operate round the clock during this period.
She said the development order for the project, under the purview of the national landscape department, was issued on Oct 3, 2022.
This morning, DBKL issued a stop-work order for the project after heavy rain damaged aluminium panels and sent mud flowing onto the nearby Jalan Abang Haji Openg.
DBKL also issued a compound notice to the contractor, in view of the situation and the potential safety risks to residents.
Fadlun had ordered a review of all slope development works in the Bukit Kiara Federal Park area nearby, and called for new guidelines for phased and controlled earthworks to be introduced.
JKR had been instructed to carry out a detailed technical investigation to determine the root cause of the flooding, which led to the collapse of a retaining wall near the project site yesterday.
The department has also been directed to assess the structural integrity of the affected area and recommend additional mitigation measures.
