Full tropical storm warning issued

PETALING JAYA: The Meteorological Department has issued a full tropical storm warning as Tropical Storm Senyar advances towards Peninsular Malaysia after being detected north of Sumatra early yesterday.
Department director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said Senyar was located at 3.6°N and 99.9°E, over the sea north of Sumatra and 102km southwest of Lumut, Perak.
He said the tropical storm is tracking east-southeast across the Strait of Malacca at about 24kph, placing several west coast states on heightened alert as it is expected to bring significant weather disturbances.
“This situation has the potential to bring continuous heavy rain and strong winds across Peninsular Malaysia and rough seas, particularly in the western and central states.
“The department has updated the Tropical Storm Warning, Continuous Heavy Rain Warning and the Strong Winds and Rough Seas Warning for Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor.
“The warnings are in effect from yesterday until tomorrow.”
The department advised the public to follow the latest updates through its official website, the myCuaca app, official social media channels and its hotline at 1-300-22-1638.
