KUCHING (Sept 23): The long-awaited drainage upgrading works at Lorong Stampin Barat 4 here have been officially completed, bringing relief to residents who have endured years of water ponding, erosion, and flash flood risks, said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.

Costing RM161,000, the project was fully funded under Yap’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2025 and implemented by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID).

He said the timely completion of the project will help minimize disruptions to the community, especially those living near SK Laksamana.

“This RTP project is not just about infrastructure ― it fulfils a promise to improve the quality of life for residents.

“The upgrading of deteriorated earth drains into permanent concrete drains will significantly improve stormwater flow, reduce flash flood risks, and provide a cleaner and safer environment for families and schoolchildren,” he said in a statement issued after visiting the site today.

He pointed out that the contract was awarded through the transparent casting of lot method to Bard Supply and Services Company.

Yap also assured residents that he will continue to work closely with DID and other relevant agencies to monitor outcomes and ensure long-term benefits for the community.

“The successful completion of this project shows that RTP funds are being put to good use for the direct benefit of the people. Our focus is on delivering practical solutions to the everyday challenges faced by the community,” he added.

Also present during the site inspection were DID officers and representatives from the appointed contractor.
