Johor cop gets praise for clearing flooded drain with bare hands

JOHOR BARU: A video showing a Johor traffic policeman on his knees clearing a clogged roadside drain during a flash flood has drawn widespread praise from netizens for his selfless act in the name of public safety.

The cop, attached to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Johor Baru (South) district police headquarters, was seen kneeling in floodwaters using his bare hands to remove debris from the blocked outlet.

The incident occurred yesterday following heavy rain which caused a stretch of road in the city to flood.

The video, uploaded to the district police's official Facebook page, has since gone viral, with social media users commending the policeman's quick thinking and compassion.

Many hailed the act as an outstanding display of commitment that went beyond the call of duty.

"Despite the rain and rising floodwaters, the policeman took it upon himself — out of care and responsibility — to ensure the safety and comfort of road users," read one comment.

"His swift action not only prevented potential accidents but also helped restore traffic flow in the affected area," another user wrote.

"This is the kind of dedication we salute… a reminder that the police are here not just to enforce the law, but to protect the public, come rain or shine," said another.
