SARIKEI (March 3): Ditch clearing and river dredging works for Sungai Selidap here will be carried out soon as flood mitigation strategies, said Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii.

The Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman said this project will be fully monitored by the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) Sarikei.

“We have received complaints from residents that their areas are often flooded during heavy rainfall and high tides,” said Huang, who is also federal Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, in a statement.

Adding on, he said DID Sarikei personnel and Sarikei parliamentary service centre team led by his officer Gung Chiu Kion had conducted checks on the affected areas in Sungai Selidap.

“There are two longhouses in this area and the drains are clogged by grass, thus, need to be cleared to facilitate water flow,” he said.

Huang also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to DID Sarikei for their prompt response.
