KUALA LUMPUR: An illegal electronic waste (e-waste) processing factory operating in Telok Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, has been issued an Equipment Operation Detention (POK) order due to pollution concerns.

Environment Department (DoE) Hazardous Materials Division director Azlan Ahmad said the action was taken under Section 38(1)(a) of the Environmental Quality Act (EQA) 1974.

"Investigations revealed that the premises had violated the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

"The POK action was taken to prevent further pollution, which could potentially affect public health," he said when contacted today.

Azlan added that the DoE has completed the investigation papers for legal action against the premises.

"The industry must play a crucial role in ensuring that their factory or premises operations comply with all environmental legal requirements and do not contribute to environmental pollution.

Yesterday, it was reported that a factory in Teluk Panglima Garang, which processes e-waste, was found to be illegally storing 50 tonnes of sacks filled with ammunition and shell casings which were to be melted down.

The shocking discovery followed a raid under Op Hazard conducted by a team from the General Operations Force Central Brigade, assisted by the police Air Wing Force and the DoE.
