Sesco prepares to restore power in Niah as floodwaters recede

MIRI (Jan 24): Sarawak Energy’s operational and retail arm, Syarikat Sesco Berhad (Sesco), is set to reconnect power to three longhouses and a primary school in Niah, which had been cut off previously due to flooding on Thursday.

According to a report from the Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), floodwaters have begun to recede to passable levels in the affected areas of Rumah Belilie, Rumah Changgai, Rumah Sigan, and SK Rumah Ranggong.

“Sesco will conduct electricity reconnection works at Rumah Belilie, Rumah Changgai, Rumah Sigan and SK Rh Ranggong as the water level has begun to recede,” said a Batu Niah Bomba personnel.

The team had initially been dispatched to evacuate flood victims should the water levels rise, but with the situation improving, no evacuations were necessary.

Bomba and other relevant authorities continued to monitor the situation closely.
