SIBU (Jan 24): Several low-lying areas near Sungai Oya in Selangau were inundated following heavy rain today.
The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Selangau promptly deployed personnel to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of residents in flood-prone areas.
During a survey of the affected areas this morning, APM Selangau District officer Lt Luke Douglas Dongum reported that several locations, including Rumah Harisson, Rumah Mambang, and Rumah Dusin, experienced flooding with water levels ranging from 0.34 to 0.67 meters.
Jalan Sepapa remains passable, but Jalan Tabau leading to Nanga Tajam and Jalan Ensurai heading to Nanga Tamin were impassable to all types of vehicles, he said in a statement.
“We found that residents downstream of Sungai Batang Oya have to use boats as an alternative means of transportation to Pekan Stapang.
“However, the longhouses, schools and clinics in the area have not been affected, and the overall situation is still under control,” he added.
Luke advised residents in the affected areas to stay vigilant and adhere to instructions from authorities in case water levels continue to rise.
