KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Civil Defence Department has identified four “hotspot” beaches that are dangerous for recreational activities this monsoon season.

State Civil Defence Force director Colonel Mohd Adzhar Mujab said they had placed red flags on the beaches, including the popular Pantai Cahaya Bulan near here, to warn the public from entering the water.

He said the other three were Tumpat, Bachok and Tok Bali beaches.

“We have set up our towers at this four beaches and placed red flags around the towers. This to warn swimmers from entering the water due to the current strong and high waves,” he added.

He said the red flags were placed on the beaches since September. “It will be there until the northeast monsoon ends,” he added.

He advised visitors to keep their children close by to avoid any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, a visit to Pantai Cahaya Bulan found that many people had spent the weekend by bringing their children and family to the beach.

The visitors, however, did not enter the water but sat near the embankment, taking pictures of the raging sea.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department had said that continuous rain was expected in Kelantan and Terengganu for four days starting Monday.

It said that the Hulu Perak district in Perak would also experience similar weather conditions. In Pahang, Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin are also expected to face continuous rain.
