Sarawak chokes under haze blanket as hot weather grips state until Aug 14

KUCHING, Aug 9 — Most parts of Sarawak will be experiencing hot weather and reduced rainfall until August 14, said Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip.

In addition, southern Sarawak is set to experience transboundary haze due to increased hotspots in the neighbouring country, he said.

“Analysis of the latest weather forecast models indicate that hot weather and below-average rainfall are expected in most parts of Borneo, including Sarawak, until August 14.

“The influence of southerly winds, combined with the anticipated high number of hot spots in the neighbouring country, could lead to transboundary haze and reduced visibility, particularly in southern Sarawak,” he said in a notice.

There are now eight locations in Sarawak where the monitoring stations recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings. — The Borneo Post
