RM1,300 aid for displaced Sabah fire victims

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has given immediate cash assistance of RM1,300 to victims of the recent fire at Kampung Cempaka here that left 511 people homeless.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who visited the victims, said the state gave each head of household RM1,000, while state-owned Yayasan Sabah contributed the remaining RM300.

As the fire occurred just a day before the fasting month of Ramadan started on Sunday, Hajiji said the state government was concerned about the victims’ wellbeing and was now considering further measures to assist them.

He said the state government, together with other relevant departments, and Kota Kinabalu City Hall will hold further discussions to help the fire victims.

Apart from financial assistance, he said the state, with the help of Sabah Welfare Foundation and Yayasan Sabah, were also providing items such as food baskets and gas stoves.
