SIBU (Feb 23): The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) carried out drain-clearing works on Jalan Hua Lai, Teluk Bango yesterday.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Councillor Kevin Lau and the community leaders inspected the dredging process.

“When our team visited the area to assess flood conditions a few weeks ago, Kapitan Tang Chuo Ging had reported that several drains in Teluk Bango were in urgent need of clearing.

“The current clean-up works by the DID covers the section from Jalan Hua Lai to the main drain.

“As for others that need to be dredged, we will continue to discuss with the authorities to facilitate water discharge into the Rajang River,” he said.

Lau also expressed his gratitude to DID for its cooperation, emphasising the importance of maintaining close communication with the local community leaders and government agencies in addressing issues affecting the Bawang Assan area.
