Feasts for flood heroes

Feasts for flood heroes

MELAKA: The dedication and unwavering efforts of frontliners, particularly throughout the month of Ramadan, have not gone unnoticed by the community.

State Civil Defence Force (APM) chairman Assoc Kol (PA) Mike Thien said various organisations and individuals decided to honour these frontliners for their flood relief efforts in two affected districts.

“We should praise and emulate these selfless responders’ acts of kindness, generosity, and camaraderie,” he said in an interview. Thien also expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support extended to the frontliners.

“In addition to hotels offering to host Ramadan buffets, halal Chinese eateries and banana leaf restaurants have also come forward to treat the frontliners.

“It is a good show of appreciation, as they played a crucial role in the rescue and evacuation efforts during the recent devastating flash floods,” he said.

He said non-Muslims have also expressed a desire to host buka puasa gatherings for flood victims.

“This reflects the deep-rooted sense of unity and compassion, especially during the holy month.”

Thien added that state APM director Lt-Kol (PA) Kamarulsyah Muslim has paid close attention to the rescue mission and evacuation efforts, which have had a positive impact on the public.

The floods saw 330 people from 93 families being evacuated. Two districts, Melaka Tengah and Jasin, were badly affected, with the evacuees placed at five temporary relief centres.

Meanwhile, the Dusit Princess Hotel also came forward to honour the frontliners. The hotel has begun preparing Ramadan cakes and pastries as a token of gratitude for these unsung heroes.

Dusit International representative Richard Suter said the dedication of the frontliners must not be forgotten. “Our small gesture is to acknowledge their selfless service and dedication.”
