Floods: All relief centres in Negri closed, situation improves in other states

KUALA LUMPUR: Floods in Negri Sembilan have fully receded, while the situation in seven other affected states namely, Perak, Selangor, Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Kedah, continue to improve as of 4pm.

In NEGRI SEMBILAN, state Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Nazri Mes Kam said that all temporary relief centres were officially closed, starting 10am, after all evacuees were able to return home.

In PERAK, the number of evacuees continued to drop on Monday (Dec 1) afternoon to 3,837 individuals from 1,156 families, who remain housed at 21 relief centres across five affected districts, compared with 4,766 individuals from 1,447 families recorded in the morning.

In SELANGOR, the situation has also shown positive progress, with the number of evacuees at relief centres decreasing to 2,224 people from 613 families as of the afternoon, down from 2,707 people from 752 families in the morning.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, one relief centre in the state has been closed, leaving 29 centres still operating across four districts - Kuala Selangor, Sepang, Kuala Langat and Sabak Bernam.

The number of flood victims in PERLIS also continued to decline, dropping to 1,387 people in the afternoon compared with 2,523 victims recorded in the morning.

According to data from the Perlis Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, two relief centres were closed on Monday, while 10 others remain operational in the Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau areas.

In TERENGGANU, the number of evacuees in Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus and Setiu dropped sharply to 511 people from 178 families, compared with 1,752 people from 552 families recorded in the morning.

According to the JKM InfoBencana portal, all relief centres in the districts of Dungun, Kemaman, Marang and Hulu Terengganu have been closed after all victims were allowed to return to their homes.

Meanwhile, in KELANTAN, a total of 353 evacuees from 129 families were accommodated at relief centres in Pasir Mas in the afternoon, compared with 894 victims recorded in the morning.

So far, two fatalities have been recorded due to the floods in Kelantan, including one non-citizen.

In PAHANG, the number of flood evacuees also declined to 289 people from 79 families in the afternoon, compared with 610 people from 206 families reported in the morning.

However, Infopublic Banjir reported that the water level of Sungai Pahang remains above the danger mark at several locations, namely at the railway bridge in Bera (34.97m), Waterfront in Bera (28.51m) and Lubuk Paku in Pekan (19.23m).

Meanwhile, in KEDAH, the number of flood evacuees dropped slightly to 219 people from 64 families as of 4pm, compared with 264 people from 83 families in the morning.

According to the Kedah JPBN, all evacuees from the Kubang Pasu district are currently housed at two relief centres.- Bernama
