Sarawak Energy pitches in with state govt to aid flood victims

KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) is extending support to the state disaster management committee (SDMC) to assist ongoing flood relief efforts across Sarawak.

Its chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki handed over a symbolic contribution to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is also SDMC chairman, on Wednesday (Feb 19) to assist communities affected by widespread floods in late January.

"We remain committed to supporting communities during these challenging times and will continue working closely with SDMC and relevant agencies to assist in the ongoing flood relief efforts," SEB said in a statement.

Heavy rainfall over the Chinese New Year period caused severe flooding across the state, displacing thousands of families and leaving many in urgent need of aid.

Earlier this month, SEB assisted flood-affected communities through other relief initiatives.

This included providing aid to 209 families from Sebuyau, with the contribution handed over to Sebuyau district officer Ayuradiman Bujang on Feb 10.

SEB also worked with local authorities in Miri and Bintulu on Feb 5-6 to distribute essential items to flood-affected households.
